BEAM specializes in realistically simulating travel behaviors, incorporating a comprehensive set of transportation modes beyond personal vehicles, including all forms of public transit, active modes like walking and biking, as well as innovative services such as ride-hailing provided by transportation network companies [e.g. Uber, Lyft] and micro-mobility options such as shared bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters. By simulating a comprehensive set of emerging vehicle innovations, such as electrification and automation, BEAM CORE enables a highly resolved ability to model market penetration, technology evolution, and energy implications of these advanced vehicle technologies and innovative mobility services.
This “conversation with a researcher” will describe the BEAM CORE simulation tool, and share examples of how it can be used to model mobility, traffic congestion, and energy impacts of regional transportation
