Coffee with a Researcher 5: Integrating Micromobility with Transit and other Modes

Micromobility, a term that covers a variety of human-powered and/or electric-assisted small vehicles, has emerged as a useful mode for augmenting existing transportation options and enabling right-size vehicle choices, primarily for short or multimodal trips. E-scooters are common in many urban areas, and e-bikes have rapidly increased in popularity as users discover their convenience and utility as quick and inexpensive transport. Some micromobility vehicles, such as e-cargo bikes, are capable of meeting delivery or family use needs. A DOE VTO-funded project titled Micromobility Integrated Transit and Infrastructure for Efficiency (MITIE) is working to expand understanding of how micromobility options are used and how they may help to shift people toward more energy-efficient mobility.
