The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have released the finalized fuel efficiency and emissions that President Obama called for in his 2014 Climate Action Plan. The standards which will cover heavy and medium duty vehicles manufactured in model years 2021 through 2027 are designed to reduce CO2 emissions by over 1.1 Billion tons over the life of these vehicles. The fuel savings are projected to be in excess of $170 Billion . The agencies are also working on fuel efficiency and Green House Gas standards. These are scheduled to come on line between 2018 and 2021.
